Dwight Clarke

"They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you."Jeremiah 1:19

Are you a senior leader who senses there's a version of your leadership that's more clear, more compelling, more you — but you haven't found the path to it yet?

I work with senior leaders and high-potential talent across industries to unlock that next level. My coaching integrates leadership development, strategic decision-making, and organizational effectiveness — always tailored to your exact situation and goals.

With deep roots in financial services, pharmaceuticals, insurance, utilities, and retail, I bring cross-industry pattern recognition that most coaches simply can't. I've operated at every level of the org chart — as a coach, facilitator, consultant, and human capital leader — so I understand the view from every floor of the building.

My approach is straightforward: I help you learn to speak your truth. I help you tell your story. Because you are the expert on you.

You won't find a more well-rounded coach.

My Why

"The worst thing that one can do to an honest man is cheat him."

There is talent hiding in plain sight in Corporate America. My gifts were always on display, however my truth and aspirations as an executive coach threatened organizational hierarchy. As such, accomplishments are ignored, errors magnified, and narratives are created to justify performance review placement.

There are gems in the 70% of the workforce, and I am passionate about helping organizations and individuals create fully authentic versions of themselves.

My purpose is threefold
  • To develop authentic leaders.
  • To develop authentic organizations.
  • To help people manage their various roles ("hats") with integrity.

This is an extremely personal undertaking for me.

Albert Clarke — Man of Faith, Rooted
In memory & in love

My father, Albert Clarke, was a proud Jamaican man who taught me honesty, integrity, hard work, and love for humanity. I refuse to let his memory or his lessons die with him since I was unable to produce an heir. Everything that I do is to make sure that my beautiful niece and my son will not have to diminish their light to fit someone else's box.

My son is the most authentic soul that I know. When I was reprimanding him for some long forgotten infraction, this boy looked at me and said, "Love me like your son." In that moment, he taught me as much about authenticity as I have ever tried to teach anyone.

Leadership 2024
No More Busy Idiots

AI has eliminated the cover of busyness. Now organizations must confront a harder question: who's actually producing value — and who's responsible for making sure everyone can?

Take Action to Avoid Letting Your Tenure Compromise Your Authenticity.

The longer a leader remains within an organization, the more challenging it becomes to maintain authentic leadership. This is the paradox of tenure. As professionals advance, they form tighter bonds and friendships, which coalesce to form the organization's culture. Over time, strongly entrenched assimilation can lead to a form of "drinking the Kool-Aid," where protecting the relationships and the established culture can, at a minimum, concede genuine, principled behavior; or worse, override it completely.

This assimilation creates a fundamental conflict. While most employees recognize "bad actors" and dysfunctional elements, tenure-based friendships can become a barrier to holding them accountable. The impulse to protect the inner circle — the "group of friends" — can overshadow the need for an authentic response.

Remaining true to oneself in a tenured role is the eternal challenge. It is a delicate balance that demands more than technical skill; it requires a high degree of emotional intelligence, encompassing self-awareness and external awareness, played out with irreprehensible diplomacy. This highlights the disconnect between theoretical research and practical experience within the corporate reality, where the "corporate grind" often works against the ideal of authenticity.

Take action to avoid letting your tenure compromise your integrity. Let me help you navigate the corporate landscape, artfully bypass unspoken cultural barriers, and thrive as an asset to your organization in your authenticity.

No More Busy Idiots

This month, I'm highlighting a topic that I believe needs reviewing. "No More Busy Idiots" is the title. I realize that this might seem like an unnecessarily bold statement, but I have sound reasoning for addressing it this way.

It touches on the concept of employees who look busy but don't produce anything of real value. AI now plays a major role in tasks previously handled manually. As such, this now begs the questions: How can organizations maximize the skills of their people? What should they be focusing on? And, more importantly, who is responsible for reskilling employees?

These are the questions I help leaders and organizations answer. If your team is busy but not productive, let's talk about what's really going on — and how to fix it.

Join Us for Our Caribbean Retreat — Negril, Jamaica 2027

As a coach, I often hear my clients say that they have a difficult time blocking out noise. Removing distractions, preconceived ideas, and strongly entrenched beliefs effectively requires a lot of dedicated mental strength. But doing so pays great dividends by helping one realize with clarity what one's purpose really is. I work with clients to take it to the next level — execution.

To help you accomplish that goal, I am pleased to offer a three-day retreat to Negril, Jamaica, for the spring of 2027. The Caribbean environment is designed to help you align with yourself, discover what truly matters to you in your career, and authentically achieve your purpose.

For more information, please contact me directly at 508-841-5420 or send an email to dwight@authenticallydc.com. Please be sure to put "2027 Jamaica Retreat" in the subject line. I hope to see you there!

Do You Want to Work Hard — or Do You Want to Work Whole?

This month's topic holds significance for me, prompting me to explore the idea of working hard versus working whole. In my own career narrative, it occurred to me that there is an eternal difference between working hard and working whole.

One of the main points I bring up is that we are conditioned to believe that working hard means producing a lot and producing well, regardless of how many hats we wear.

My goal is to clarify the thinking on this. Working whole is something completely different. Recognition of this becomes deeply personal, offers clarity, and gives you the opportunity to authentically craft your own narrative and legacy.

If you have lost sight of your own vision for your legacy, please contact me at dwight@authenticallydc.com — put "Working Whole" in the subject line. I would enjoy the opportunity to help you achieve what it means to work whole.

What Do Jalen Brunson, Seabiscuit, and Dwight Clarke Have in Common?

New York Knicks are in the NBA playoffs! It's my home team, and I'm excited to see them play!

Team Captain Jalen Brunson is more than a basketball athlete to me. In fact, his rise to the top serves as the impetus for my blog this month. Let me introduce the topic by way of this question: What do Jalen Brunson, horse racing champion Seabiscuit, and I all have in common?

The easy answer is that each one has risen to the top of their careers. But how, and why is this significant? The answer is provocative and compelling because it encourages so many in the workforce.

How many Jalen Brunsons are in your organization? I help leaders and companies find them — and give them the room to rise. Reach out and let's talk.
